German Rauchbier (Smoked Beer) All-Grain Recipe. This is a traditional German style using malt that has been dried over an open beech wood flame giving the malt a smokey aroma and flavour. This beer will have a low hop bitterness that just balances the malty character nicely while finishing slightly dry. The colour will be darker however the beer will be clear. Traditionally these are lagers however you can choose to ferment with a clean ale yeast such as WLP001 or US-05.
This kit consists of Pilsner, Beech-Smoked Malt, Munich, CaraMunich, Melanoidin and Black malts with German hallertauer hops for bittering and for flavour and aroma. The provided yeast is US-05 from Fermentis but you can upgrade to WLP001 liquid yeast (if available) from White Labs below.
The ingredient list and instructions will be provided with the kit. For all-grain kits the instructions are limited to the hop addition schedule and suggested mash temperature. This is an advanced kit and you must be comfortable with brewing all-grain to ensure success with this product. Please ensure you are properly setup for all-grain brewing prior to purchasing this kit. Although we provide instructions, we are not responsible for your brewing technique.
This kit is designed to brew 1 gallons or approximately 3.8 litres. This is a perfect size for small test batches, or enough beer for that event or weekend.
