Oatmeal Stouts are typically a very dark, full-bodied beer with a very smooth mouthfeel and this version is no exception. While contrary to what many believe, the oats do not impart an oatmeal flavour; they do provide a slight nutty character and the creaminess we associate with this style. This beer will have a roasted-grain flavour with hints of bitter chocolate or coffee and a touch of nutty or earthy tones. The hop flavour is low and the bitterness is mild and the color is very dark. Mashing this recipe for 90 minutes instead of 60 will increase the contribution of the oats and provide more of the nutty tones of the oats.

This kit consists of 2-row, Oats, Crystal 75, Chocolate, Victory and Roasted Barley malts. East Kent Goldings hops are used for bittering. The provided yeast is US-05 from Fermentis but you can upgrade to WLP004 liquid yeast (if available) from White Labs below.

The ingredient list and instructions will be provided with the kit. For all-grain kits the instructions are limited to the hop addition schedule and suggested mash temperature. This is an advanced kit and you must be comfortable with brewing all-grain to ensure success with this product. Please ensure you are properly setup for all-grain brewing prior to purchasing this kit. Although we provide instructions, we are not responsible for your brewing technique.

This kit is designed to brew 5 gallons or approximately 19 litres. This is a perfect size for kegging. However, if you would like the traditional 6 gallon or approximately 23 litre batch size, please choose that preference below
  • Colour: 32 SRM
  • Bitterness: 29.2 IBUs
  • ABV: 5.4%

The grain in all of our kits comes crushed. This grain is good for 6-9 months if stored in a cool dry location. Please store the hops in the freezer if not brewing immediately

this was the first stout I tried. turned out great. I kegged with c02 but can imagine that it would have been great with nitro as well. out of 4 on tap this and the Irish red were the first to go.

Ordered it as a 6 gallon. Used dry yeast.  1st all grain try and 1 try at kegging. It is great, even my ' lite' beer friends love it.  Dark and delicious
