American Stout Extract Recipe. American stouts are stronger have more of a hop flavour and bolder roasted malt then other stouts. Moderate bitterness and a medium mouthfeel characterize this stout. Hints of coffee and bitter chocolate are not uncommon in this style while the use of American style hops provides a slight citrusy or resiny nose and hop flavour.
This simple kit consists of 2-row extract, black, chocolate and crystal malts. Magnum hops are used for bittering while centennial are used for flavouring to give a slight citrusy character. The provided yeast is US-05 from Fermentis but you can upgrade to WLP001 liquid yeast (if available) from White Labs below. The specialty grains do not come crushed, however if you require this service it is optional, please indicate below your preference.
The ingredient list and instructions will be provided with the kit. This is a beginner/intermediate kit and you must be comfortable with brewing extract with specialty grains to ensure success with this product. Please ensure you have all of the appropriate equipment for extract brewing prior to purchasing this kit. Although we provide instructions, we are not responsible for your brewing technique.

This kit is designed to brew 5 gallons or approximately 19 litres. This is a perfect size for kegging. However, if you would like the traditional 6 gallon or approximately 23 litre batch size, please choose that preference below

If present, the grain in all of our kits comes crushed. This grain is good for 6-9 months if stored in a cool dry location. Please store the hops in the freezer if not brewing immediately. Not all kits come with specialty grains, please refer to the instruction sheet that contains the ingredient list to be sure.
