German Weizen (wheat) beers are characterized by their hazy appearance, aroma of cloves and banana and a slightly sweet pilsner malt flavour. This beer has a low bitterness and derives it's spicy flavours and aromas from the yeast. The temperature of fermentation is important with this particular style with 63-65 F (17-18 C) being optimal. The pale straw colour and long-lasting head are attributable to the high percentage of wheat malt used. This light beer which originated in southern Germany is a home-brew favourite and perfect for sunny days on the deck.
This kit consists of wheat extract with German Hallertauer as the bittering hops. The yeast included with this kit is WB-06 wheat yeast however you ca upgrade to White Labs liquid yeast below.
